Moonflower

I love the night blooming moonflower.  I planted it from seed so I was glad to
see the first blooms.  I finally learned how to get the seeds to come up.
I cut a small slit in the seed and soaked it overnight before planting it in a pot in my
small greenhouse in early spring, then moved it to the yard after danger of frost is over.
The blooms are very fragrant but I'm glad I didn't try to smell this one.
It was dark when I took this picture and I would not have seen the ants.

Moonflower Seed Pods

I've been trying to keep the moonflower deadheaded but there have been so many blooms and when I miss a couple of days, you can see how many seed pods there. I need to start letting some of the pods develop so I will have seeds for next year.

Moonflower

I love the moonflowers. The blooms open at dusk an close mid-morning. They only last one day but there are lots of blooms. The fragrance is so nice. If you're lucky you might see a moth on it at night. In the second photo, you can see the moonflower bud, an open flower and a spent flower from the previous night.

Full Moon and Jupiter

I didn't realize when I took this photo (Wed. Sept. 2) that it was a special event. I was just enchanted with the beauty of the full moon. Guess I need to do some research to find out what was so special about this.

Moonflower

The moonflower is finally blooming. This morning it had 10 blooms, but there are lots of buds. The blooms only last one day but new ones open daily. They open about dusk and close mid-morning. The fragrance permeates the morning air.
